One Summer in Vermilion. Vol. 1, Issue 8

Between the rain and the hot days this past week, I can officially announce that summer is here and it feels wonderful! There are a lot of people on the sidewalks and in the parks, a welcome site considering that just a year ago (really?) it felt like the COVID restrictions would never end. Here’s what the week brought:

  • I’ve added a few more people to our All Washed Up registration. These artists come from all over Ohio. We have people from Vermilion, Wakeman, Amherst and Berea showing driftwood art pieces at the contest. One artist even comes all the way from Marblehead to show her work. Don’t forget that All Washed Up is July 31st, so come enjoy the artwork!

  • I was able to work for Shore Thing on my normal Tuesdays. It was a scorcher, and naturally we sold a lot of ice cream. with Spongebob popsicles and the Hood ice cream sandwiches being the most popular choices. Unfortunately we had to close early because of the rain. Shore Thing is open from noon-5 PM daily, weather permitting of course. If you need a quick snack or beverage, Shore Thing will be waiting.

  • I wanted to let you all know that we changed our email address. We will no longer use the mainstreetvermilion@gmail.com email. Instead, emails will be directed toward individual MSV staff on our website (mainstreetvermilion.org). For example, if you want to email Marilou (Executive Director), with questions or general inquiries, you will forward your message to marilou@mainstreetvermilion.org. The same format will also be used for contacting Brenda business operations manager and Amy, special projects coordinator).

  • My big task this week was to distribute MSV event flyers to some local businesses. In fact, there will be a fun event coming up! There will be a free concert at the Vermilion Boat Club starring Robbie K. Jones. Jones is a Vermilion native who moved to Spain after high school to pursue a career in music.. He is returning to his hometown and is treating the community to a free concert! Join us on July 8 at 7:30 PM for this wonderful opportunity!

  • During my outing, I was able to get lunch from Shore Nutrition. I’ve been there once, but wanted to try a different flavor of meal replacement shake. Instead of cookies and cream, I tried a birthday cake shake with extra protein. It was better than my first shake, which had no extra protein. I’m not surprised that birthday cake is one of their best-selling flavors.

We are entering the best days of summer! Follow Main Street Vermilion to hear about the latest events!
