Shore Thing

Our Mission

We are ambassadors for the city and stewards of the beach, sharing our knowledge, appreciation, and love for it with others by maintaining a concession stand and, through revenue, contributing to the community.

Shore Thing is located at the Main Street Beach in Downtown Vermilion. Look for the delightful yellow beach shack hosted by volunteers who will welcome you to Vermilion and provide assistance for finding your way around town, from where to eat, drink and stay, attractions, directions and more. They are truly ambassadors to our "Small Town on a Great Lake."

This group of dedicated volunteers have beach chairs to rent, original beach glass jewelry for sale,  as well as soda, chips and ice cream. Like our clean and tidy beach? You can thank the City of Vermilion and Shore Thing volunteers who work together to make sure it's guest ready. There's also an ADA sand wheel chair for beach access and a Mobi Mat for accessibility to the water's edge.

Would you like to volunteer or donate to Shore Thing? Each helps further the mission of this group.

About Shore Thing

It started as a conversation over dinner between a group of friends who wanted to share the beauty that their little town of Vermilion offered with everyone, visitors and residents alike. They turned their attention to Main Street Beach, a most popular gathering place in Vermilion. The group was energized to develop a vision for the making changes at the beach, most importantly to keep it clean for visitors and create a welcoming atmosphere for all. To create a sustainable program they needed dedicated volunteers.

So why do they volunteer?

“The more we give, the happier we feel. Volunteering increases self-confidence. We are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Our roles as volunteers also give us a sense of pride and identity.”
