UPDATE 7.7.21: Rain or shine, the show will go on. If not outside, we’ll be inside at the boat club. Come early!

We know him as Robb Jones, VHS class of ’93. The indie music world knows him as Robbie K Jones. He’s homegrown talent living in the village of Cercedilla, tucked in the mountains of Madrid, Spain and known for the ancient roads built by the Romans and still traveled on foot by visitors.

There’s not one Vermilion attraction can top that but it doesn’t mean we stop trying.

Jones tours the UK, Spain and Ireland as a member of Track Dogs, an acoustic four-member band but on Thursday, July 8 at 7:30PM at the Vermilion Boat Club, he’s all ours for a homecoming show and free concert. He’ll be joined by Thor Platter on guitar and vocals, Matthew Charboneau on bass; and Paul Kovac on the fiddle, mandolin and vocals.

Robbie specializes in the cajon flamenco. Cajon is Spanish for ‘crate.’ (What’s six sided and takes a beating? That’s the instrument you’ll get to know that evening.) He also took up the banjo and songwriting in 2010 and you’ll get a taste of that as well.

The performance will feature original music with an Americana flavor, seasoned with Bluegrass. It’s the later that keeps him rooted to Ohio while living thousands of miles away.

This is a free concert at the Vermilion Boat Club has the river and lagoons as a backdrop. It’s a family-friendly event that promises to be fun and, “Maybe a bit emotional for new and old friends,” said Jones.

Bring your own seating and food. The Vermilion Boat Club will provide a cash bar that evening. Robbie has asked that donations for his performance benefit the Harbourtown Fine Arts Center and Main Street Vermilion. Both organizations embrace missions to bring visual and performing arts to Vermilion to be experienced by all.
