One Summer in Vermilion. Vol. 1, Issue 6

I can’t believe that it is the middle of June already! Time really does fly when you’re having fun! Every day is a new adventure at MSV. This week’s big task is preparing for the Festival of the Fish, which is happening from June 17-20th. We have fun events planned, one of them being fireworks on Friday night at nine! Without further ado, here are my seventh-week adventures:

  • On Monday, I finished a grant report that I’ve been working on for a few weeks. If you’ve seen me walking around town taking pictures of buildings on my phone, that is the reason why (I’m not a creeper)! It always feels good accomplishing an important task, especially knowing that an organization such as Heritage Ohio will be reading it!

  • I’ve been outside as much as I’ve been inside. I’ve been busy with eliminating weeds in front of our office. Oddly enough, my experience with Vermilion in Bloom prepared me to enjoy this task. I’m definitely working on my tan!

  • Tuesday was a fun day, since I was able to go to the beach! Thanks to Judy Kernell, I was able to see what Shore Thing does on a daily basis. Thank you to everyone who buys beverages, snacks and ice cream; it is a pleasure serving you! Shore Thing’s concession stand is open every day from 12-5 PM, so stop by and see us if you are visiting Main Street Beach!

  • I also noticed the Little Free Library when I was at Main Street Beach. For those that don’t know, a Little Free Library is a book deposit where people can “Take a Book, Return a Book”. The window looks opaque, but do not be fooled. Some books are waiting to be read inside. One book in particular stood out to me, and it was a vintage collection of French legends and fairy tales by Barbara Leonie Picard (this edition dates back to 1955). I borrowed it and read it when I wasn’t busy serving customers. It was quite interesting! If you forgot your book at home, the Little Free Library will make sure you can still read at the beach!

  • We decorated the office’s front porch for the festival. It is ready for Mardi Gras, so it will be yellow, green and purple for a weekend! I also will be handing out Goldfish crackers at our booth on Saturday from noon-3 PM, so I would love to meet you if you stop by!

  • I was finally able to try Coal and Ice! Their macaroni and cheese sounded good, so I tried a 6-ounce side. It was really cheesy, and very hot. I enjoyed it, and would definitely eat it again; in fact I’m craving it as I write this post!

Stay tuned for more of my weekly adventures!
