One Summer in Vermilion. Vol. 1, Issue 5

It is starting to feel like summer! Memorial Day came and went, temperatures are rising, and I’m starting to crave ice cream more! We are getting ready for big events such as Festival of the Fish and the Farmers Market (now known as Market in the Park)! Here is an update on my fifth week adventures:

  • We finally finished going through old files upstairs! Everything has either been placed in the shred pile or has been grouped by subject matter into folders. Going through MSV’s history has been both helpful and interesting, especially for 20th anniversary research!

  • Marilou and I went to a planning meeting for All Washed Up. We met Caroline, Janet and Mary Ellen (the planning committee) at Brewed Awakening. I wanted to try one of their smoothies, so I decided to sample a strawberry smoothie. I was in for a surprise though; I didn’t know that whipped cream was placed on their smoothies! It was enjoyable, but probably not the best thing to have on a cold day!

  • On that same day, I had the opportunity to eat lunch from Big Ed’s Soda Grill. Marilou kindly gave me a $10 certificate, and I got my usual grilled chicken sandwich, French fries, and lemonade. I was tempted to buy ice cream, but it was rainy and cold on that day. Main Street Mae was at the office, and she was begging me to give her some of my lunch! I did not feed her anything but it was a funny sight!

  • On Thursday June 3, I pulled weeds out front. It was quite fun! Pulling weeds reminded me of my time gardening with Vermilion in Bloom, which brought back pleasant memories. I think I’m becoming more of a gardener as I get older!

  • I had the opportunity to meet Jim Forthofer, the Mayor of Vermilion too! I had to get his signature on two documents for Marilou. He was on the phone when I came in, so I talked with Anne Maiden, his administrative assistant, until he was finished! We talked about Vermilion and Castalia, which is my hometown (so many people still ask about the Blue Hole). I can see why he is the mayor! He also gave me a button which says “Friend of Mayor Jim” on it!

This week went really fast since it was only four days! Stay tuned for more of my personal adventures as well as important news!
