One Summer in Vermilion. Vol. 1, Issue 4

It seems that we had a few days of spring and then summer decided to stay for a while. The rain also made an appearance and it cooled us down! Things are beginning to open up downtown, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the summer will bring. Here is my fourth week in a nutshell:

  • On Monday May 24, I had the opportunity to attend a conference at Kalahari, which was sponsored by Lake Erie Shores and Islands. The topic was about shifts in the tourism industry and tips for how to cope with the changes. The presenter, Roger Brooks, was entertaining and informative. He took the time to tour our area before speaking at the conference. Most speakers wouldn’t do those extra things, so his effort was greatly appreciated! It was also fun for Marilou to meet with other attendees, so it was like a family reunion in a sense!

  • Ever since my first week, I’ve been curious about Granny Joe’s Ice Creamatourium. I had lunch there, but I always wanted to try their ice cream. I went with Angela of Rocky and Lela’s Barkery and Boutique. We both ordered “Cookie Monster” sundaes (a combination of vanilla ice cream, cookies, chocolate sauce and whipped cream topped off with a cherry). Both of our sundaes were heavenly! If you’re in the mood for ice cream, Granny Joe’s will help you fulfill your craving!

  • Another important piece of news: The Vermilion History Museum is now open! I got this information from two people who came into the office and asked for directions to it. The museum was temporarily closed because of COVID, but you can now go if you’ve been waiting!

  • Orenda Salon had its business shower on Wednesday, May 26. The salon’s indoors was quite homey. My favorite part was the black-and-white tiled floor. The owner, Courtney, was quite friendly and is excited to do business in Vermilion! If you need a haircut, Orenda is located at 4567 Liberty Avenue, tucked away behind Beanie’s Laundry.

  • I visited Shore Nutrition to introduce myself and collect Textedly information. I talked with Courtney (co-owner) and tried a cookies and cream shake. It was the best “healthy” milkshake I’ve ever had! Courtney is also a lot of fun to talk to; she has a contagious laugh as well! If you need a good cheer and a hearty shake/tea combo, go to Shore Nutrition (located in the South Shore Plaza)!

As restrictions are lifted and we cope with the “new normal”, Main Street Vermilion wants to help you make the most of your summer! Please visit us soon; we would love to meet you!

Note from the Director: “I think what I like most about Hayley is that she puts herself out there and makes an effort to connect with our business community. Ice cream with a new business owner and a shake across town at another. While she may be satisfying her sweet tooth, what’s really happening is that she is building good will with Main Street business members and partners.”
