Join Main Street Vermilion for our Lantern Parade on Saturday, November 7! We’ll gather at Main Street Beach at 4:30 PM and take a less-than-one-mile stroll through historic downtown and Harbourtown, accompanied by live musicians and the glow of lanterns.

It’s simple, it’s festive, and it’s a wonderful way to experience Vermilion in a whole new light.

A few frequently asked questions:

What is a lantern parade?
It’s a less-than-one-mile stroll through historic downtown and Harbourtown with live musicians. We’ll walk along the sidewalks, carrying our lighted lanterns. The only requirement is that you meet us at Main Street Beach at 4:30 PM with a lantern.

What isn’t allowed?
No open flames, please. For everyone’s safety, lanterns should be LED or otherwise flame-free.

Can I bring my pet?
As much as we love our four-legged friends, pets should stay home for this event so we can keep everyone safe and comfortable along the route.

I didn’t make it to a lantern workshop. Can I still participate?
YES, YES AND YES! Absolutely! You do not need to attend a workshop to join the parade. There are lots of simple lantern ideas on Pinterest. A Lantern can be anything lit up with an LED light!

What else do I need to know?

Children must be WITH an adult at all times.

Viewing area is Friendship Park, downtown Vermilion. (next to Ritter public Library)

Your lantern doesn’t have to be fancy. The fun is in making it your own!

The lower parking lot on Main Street at Main Street Beach & Park will close at 2pm on event day.
