Greetings from Vermilion, Ohio, features images from several of the postcards selected for the Public Art Vermilion Postcard Project.
“To kick off the project, we wanted an image that would tie together the aspects of Vermilion that make our town unique," said Laura Gongos, Public Art Vermilion co-chair. "The idea was to capture a sense of community, history and nostalgia."
To locate as many vintage postcards as possible, Public Art Vermilion put out a call to the community asking residents for their historic postcards to spark inspiration. Gongos said the response was overwhelming with over 10,000 postcards being shared, some 100 years old.
The Postcard Project team searched for talent, selecting local artists Mike Sekletar and Brian Goodwin to develop the project based on their proposal and strong background in mural painting. "They're so talented,” Gongos said. “We're so lucky to have them working on this project."
The first postcard, sponsored by Main Street Vermilion and Public Art Vermilion, was unveiled to an enthusiastic public in Vermilion who patiently waited to see the next 14 in the The Postcard Project series.
