Main Street Vermilion Events: More Than Just Fun & Games!

What is your favorite Vermilion event? You know, the one you wait for every year. Do you pitch in as a volunteer or attend as a guest? And why do organizations, like Main Street Vermilion, host events?  Trust me, they are a lot of work, require generous support from local businesses and sponsors and count on a lot of people to do them well.

I’m going to give you the TOP 5 BENEFITS of Main Street community events. [First, let’s agree that fun is a given!]

  1. Events bring members of our community closer together.

Think about how you feel after you attend a good event, filled with music, art, fun and people. For me, my spirits are high and I feel like I’ve invited guests into my “home” [aka community] to enjoy the moment. I also notice that when people volunteer together to put on an event, a lot of fast friendships are formed.

  2. Events help establish an identity for our town.

Every town is unique and local events help to keep traditions alive. People identify Vermilion with Ice A Fair, All Washed Up, Chalk it Up, Light Up Vermilion as well as the Vermilion Chamber’s Festival of the Fish and Woollybear Sunday. Establishing a strong town identity through events helps create a sense of pride within the community, encourages local residents to take care of their town, and attracts new visitors along the way. When people visit, like their experience, and connect with others, they might consider Vermilion as somewhere they would like to live. It happens all the time!

  3. Events boost our local economy.
Business and Individual partners support events with donations and in turn Main Street promotes Vermilion tourism. This creates a critical mass of people on the street who may enter these very businesses. Events raise business profiles and drive revenue by attracting both local residents and people from neighboring towns. Tourism tax dollars keep the local economy healthy and encourages business growth.

  4. Events create memorable moments through a shared experience.

When you attend a local event you can share your thoughts, ideas, and creativity with individuals across cultures. This is an opportunity to grow your network and build relationships that add value to your life. Who have you met at an event that left an impression, even if only for a few minutes?

  5. Events are good for our mental and emotional health.

When you come together with family, friends, and others in your community it helps build healthy relationships and enhance mental well-being. A positive state of mind can ultimately contribute to physical wellness, improve your quality of life, and strengthen bonds between individuals especially when they are sharing in a fun or rewarding moment.

As Main Street Vermilion prepares to celebrate 20 years of service in Vermilion we’ve looked back on two decades of events that have brought the community together, created lasting memories, some great friendships, as well as pride in our community.

We’re ready to do more events during our next 20 years as well as beautification and public art projects, economic and business development, tourism promotion, visitor services, preservation and more. Support Main Street Vermilion with a donation and together let’s make more happen.
